ARTIST STATEMENT

“Just the right amount of wrong” is the way in which Lauren Spencer defines her art. With a slightly humorous approach, she tackles subjects of unease or with deeper layers and forces the spectator to surrender to the demands of the work, face their discomfort, and deal with its impact. With this I attempt to gives the viewer what I call a “breathing space”. Spencer is not merely the creator, but also functions as a filter in the artwork, becoming the creation itself. Interactive spaces, film, collages, and performance are her device to channel her work
